About the set
The companion work to Halsbury's Laws.
Halsbury's Statutes of England and Wales provides the up-to-date text of every Public General Act and Church of England Measure currently in force, arranged by subject in the same alphabetical scheme as its companion, Halsbury's Laws. First published in 1929, the current fourth edition runs to around fifty volumes, published between 1985 and 1992 and kept current since with an annual supplement and periodic loose-leaf updates.
Which edition do you have?
The title page of any volume states the edition. If that's missing, the publication dates usually settle it — and in practice almost every set still on a working shelf is the 4th.

A 3rd edition ran between the 2nd and 4th. We've left its dates out rather than state figures we haven't verified — if you think you have one, tell us and we'll work it out from the volumes themselves.

Around 50 volumes, published 1985–1992. The edition most actively-used sets will be.
Completeness
A full run plus a current Cumulative Supplement is worth most, though partial sets are genuinely still worth valuing.
Consolidated volumes
The Consolidated Index, Citator, and Table of Statutory Instruments add value when included, but aren't essential.

Yes — Statutes contains the text of Acts of Parliament currently in force; Laws is the narrative encyclopaedia. We buy both, together or separately.
Do I need the Consolidated Index and Citator volumes?
They add a little value but aren't essential — a set without them is still worth having valued.
What edition do you buy?
Mainly the 4th edition (around 50 volumes), though earlier complete sets are considered too.
